About Garage Almanac

Garage Almanac is a reference site for people with a truck and a garage. It starts with the question that costs the most wasted money and burned-out tools: does this battery fit that tool, and if not, is there a safe way to bridge them?

Our mission

Cordless power-tool batteries are a tangle of competing brands, voltages, and lookalike adapters, and a wrong “yes” can damage an expensive tool or pack. Garage Almanac publishes clear, source-checked compatibility facts so that decision is never a guess: per-platform battery hubs, cross-brand adapter guides that list only the products that genuinely exist, and within-brand interchange answers.

The site is built on one structured dataset, not a pile of hand-written opinion pieces:

• Platform compatibility: which batteries fit which tools and chargers, across 26 battery platforms from the major brands.
• Battery adapters: 19 cross-brand adapters that each have a real product behind them, with approximate price and the limitations that matter.
• Interchange and legacy: 8 within-brand questions about mixing old and new packs safely.

How we verify

Accuracy is a liability here, so every claim has a paper trail. In-platform and voltage facts are sourced to manufacturer battery and charger pages. An adapter is only listed as existing when a live product listing backs it, captured with its retailer ASIN and approximate price. The full provenance for each row, including the URL and the date it was checked, is documented alongside the dataset, and the whole set is re-verified on a quarterly schedule rather than left to drift.

Pages carry the date they were last reviewed so you can see how current a fact is. When a claim turns out to be wrong, the correction goes to the dataset so every page that draws on it updates at once.
